The Umstead Coalition has asked the state and airport to resurvey the boundary between the park and the site of a proposed Wake Stone quarry.

Wake Stone Corp. is looking to expand the quarry operation with a new hole on neighboring land owned by Raleigh-Durham International Airport.

The Department of Environmental Quality reached a settlement with Wake Stone Corp. that will allow the company to mine stone on land adjacent to Umstead State Park.

The much-debated quarry is back on again after a judge overturns a decision from state environmental regulators.
