A West Michigan teen is getting attention for his design of a t-shirt to be sold at Meijer stores. Elijah Brown created the art for use on a shirt honoring Black History Month.The t-shirt will be sold at Meijer stores throughout the Midwest. The design features an image of a bird and a cage. GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. â A Black History Month t-shirt designed by a Grand Rapids teenager and a professional artist is now in hundreds of Meijer stores across the country.
âItâs not just a piece of art hanging on a wall,â said Jasmine Bruce, one of the t-shirt designers. âItâs able to be on your clothing, and that in and of itself can be able to spread it across for all the people to see that normally wouldnât go to a gallery or even on the Internet at all.â
In November, Bruce and Elijah Brown, a University Preparatory Academy junior, joined with West Michigan Center for Arts + Technology (WMCAT) and Meijer to create and print the shirts.
