In 2011, Karen Beemus was arrested twice in Kings County for various drug-related charges. Now she’s sober, holds a steady job and is helping others to do the same.
The community will have nine units on H Street, behind the mission s existing men s shelter. The village will feature a scenic courtyard and wraparound services, including job training and substance abuse treatment. My faith is the biggest driver, so I think our directions are pretty clear as a Christian, said Dave Clevenger, who is overseeing the project. If my neighbor doesn t have a house, doesn t have a job. it s my responsibility to give them an opportunity for a job and a house.
To accomplish that, Clevenger worked with Lighthouse before starting his own company called Prefab Innovations. He hopes to use the H Street village as a model for other communities across the region. Already, Lighthouse and Prefab have three other villages what Clevenger calls pocket courtyards planned for Tulare.
