The Nigerian Army and a popular Islamic cleric, Ahmad Gumi, on Wednesday disagreed over the latter’s allegation that security agents were collaborating with bandits.

Arise TV, on Wednesday, alleged that a lot of those he described as bad elements in the nation’s security forces were colluding with bandits.
The cleric stated that the bandits had been able to access assorted weapons that they used against Nigeria due to the cooperation of the security agents.

The Zamfara State Government said on Friday that an army officer (names witheld) is currently under investigation having been arrested in Zamfara for conniving with bandits in terrorizing citizens.
Deputy Chief of Staff to the state governor, Dr. Bashir Maru revealed this at a press briefing on the matter in Gusau on Friday.
He said, the army officer was engaged in the crime along with his girl friend, who had also been arrested and is in custody.
“An issue of topical importance is a recent arrest by the Military of an Army officer and his girlfriend who are engaged in assisting bandits with Military uniforms and ammunitions in active connivance with other saboteurs.

Despite the order given security agents to crackdown on bandits disturbing the peace of Zamfara State, gunmen suspected to be bandits have attacked Ruwan Tofa in Maru Local Government Area of Zamfara State, kidnapping several persons, mainly women and children.
Though Vanguard could not ascertain the exact number of persons abducted, some residents who managed to escape the onslaught said about 60 were taken away.
The development came as the state government, yesterday, declared a dusk-to-dawn curfew on Jangebe, following the mob action that trailed yesterday’s official handover of the 279 abducted students of Government Girls Secondary School who were set free by their abductors on Tuesday to their parents.
