Shipments of PCs are already up significantly, transformed seemingly overnight from a stagnant technology being pushed aside by smartphones to an essential tool for an era of learning and working from home. And that era looks to be long-lasting, if not permanent.
If the second personal computing revolution is going to stick, though, it needs worthy hardware. Key component manufacturers notably, AMD, Intel, and Nvidia have sensed this. At CES 2021 this week, they introduced dozens of new graphics processors, mobile and desktop CPUs, and other chips to boost the capabilities of PCs introduced this year.
In a nod to the rise of remote work, remote school, and the increased popularity of PC gaming, Intel on Monday announced four new processor families that will power everything from massive desktop gaming rigs to inexpensive Chromebooks.
Among the new chips are 27 business-focused models, 12 for premium gaming laptops, and eight to power a new class of desktop PCs. With their arrival, Intel’s long-delayed transition to a 10-nanometer (10nm) chip-fabrication process inches closer to completion, a key step as the company seeks to compete with AMD s Ryzen processors and Apple’s new in-house silicon, the M1 chip.

During its CES 2021 keynote event, Intel announced multiple new mobile processors that feature their 11th gen Core technologies. They introduced updated processors for their business customers with new Intel Core vPro CPUs; new Core-H series processors for gaming and new N-series Pentium Silver and Celeron processors that are targeted at education systems.
With the 11th Gen Core H-series processors, Intel is focusing on improving the gaming capabilities of ultra-portable laptops.
