More than 20,000 people have been confirmed dead after a devastating earthquake struck parts of Turkey and Syria, and local residents gathered to mourn those.
About 150 people attended a vigil for those affected by the devastating earthquakes in Turkey and Syria, including Mehmet Deniz of Hoffman Estates, who has lost more than 100 family members.
The Executive Director of the Turkish American Society of Minnesota says some of their volunteers have family members trapped under debris or displaced because of two major earthquakes that rocked Turkey and Syria this week.
The 7.8 magnitude earthquake killed more than 3,400 people and injured thousands more as it toppled thousands of buildings and trapped residents under rubble. Turkish and Syrian organizations in Chicago quickly rallied to provide aid for those affected.
