Man wants to be a better person after luxury goods theft

Premium Content Subscriber only A man who claims he sought support but instead found himself caught up in a Byron hinterland break-in where a haul of valuables was stolen wants to be a better person , a court has heard. Jarrod Cameron, 25, from Port Macquarie, had pleaded guilty to aggravated break-and-enter over the March 22, 2020 theft of numerous valuables from a Coorabell home. Defence lawyer Tom Ivey told the court Cameron moved north and met his co-accused before going to stay with him in Byron Bay, Tweed Heads Local Court heard on Friday. Mr Cameron meets up with him, is offered support from (the co-accused), Mr Ivey said.

Lawyer asks court to throw out delayed gel blaster case

Premium Content Subscriber only The lawyer representing a woman facing firearms charges has asked the court to throw the case out. Tayla Ashley Blundell, 25, from Tweed Heads, has not lodged any formal pleas to the 20 charges against her. The charges arose from May 13 and June 12 last year and involve numerous counts of unauthorised firearm possession and four drug possession charges. According to court documents, all of the items she is alleged to have possessed are gel blaster style guns, legal in Queensland but classed as a prohibited weapon in NSW. Defence lawyer Kim Ivosevac said the court had the power to discharge Ms Blundell due to a delay, after the DPP asked for more time to file documents to progress the case in Tweed Heads Local Court on Friday.

Robbery victim had foot imprint on his face, court told

Premium Content A Northern NSW man charged over an alleged robbery has been refused bail. Jarrod Steven Skimmings, 36, from Tweed Heads South, faced Byron Bay Local Court via video link from a cell at Tweed Heads Police Station on Monday. Defence solicitor Riley Owen lodged not guilty pleas on Mr Skimmings behalf to charges of robbery and possessing implements to enter or drive a conveyance and committing a Section 114 offence having a previous conviction. Police will allege he robbed Andrew McPherson of his wallet and mobile phone in Tweed Heads South shortly before midnight on January 1 this year. He is further alleged to have possessed a key belonging to a vehicle on January 8.
