My first love was toxic and abusive and began at ground zero of a pedophile scandal: Child gymnast
I endured Larry Nassar, John Geddert and the terrifying culture of youth gymnastics. Some days I am strong. But every day I am surviving.

"Once a gymnast, always a gymnast,” they say. I hold that close to my heart. From the time I was 8 to when I turned 17, I trained on “the team," an extremely competitive, handpicked group of elite gymnasts who represented the Great Lakes Gymnastics Club in Lansing, Michigan.
Parents would drive from hours away and spend nights in hotels, or with other families, in order to have their gymnasts practice there with John Geddert, the legendary coach who would lead the USA Women’s Gymnastic Team to a gold medal at the 2012 Olympics. In the early 1990s, after he had a falling out with the owners of Great Lakes Gymnastics Club, most of those parents would follow John to his newly formed Twistars Gymnastics Club, where their daughters were treated by a medical student named Larry Nassar.

Geddertâs wifeâs name is Kathryn Geddert and from their marriage, they have three children. The details of their marriage and the names of their children are not revealed to the public over privacy and safety concerns. In June 1996, John and Kathryn opened Twistars Gymnastics Club in Lansing, Michigan.
Geddert was reportedly a longtime associate of sex offender and disgraced former gymnastics physician Larry Nassar. A day after USA Gymnastics announced the suspension of his membership pending investigation of the abuse allegations, Geddert retired from the coaching profession. On January 25, 2018, he transferred the management of Twistars to Kathryn. The documents from the Gedderts file with the Department of Licensing and Regulatory Affairs confirm the transfer. At the same time, Twistarsâ website also lists Kathyrn as its owner and has appeared to remove any references of her husband.

on Thursday.
"He tortured and abused little girls, myself included, for more than 30 years and was able to cheat justice," said Klein, who had identified herself as the first to be abused by former USA Gymnastics team doctor Larry Nassar.
Geddert, who took his own life Thursday after news of the charges, was the former owner of Michigan's famed Twistars Gymnastics Club. It was one of the places Nassar had admitted to sexually abusing young female athletes. Twistars has since been sold and renamed.
