The new album is a culmination of more than 12 years exploring all of those identities to connect more deeply with the music of his Iraqi-Jewish ancestry.
Yoni Battat is multi-instrumentalist, vocalist, and composer. He spent most of the last year performing as a musician, singer, and actor with the national tour of The Band’s Visit. Besides playing Arab and Jewish-Middle Eastern music, he also has recorded and performed Ashkenazi and Yiddish music with his band Two Shekel Swing. He is now studying Arabic language and music in Israel-Palestine as a Dorot Fellow.
