GREEN RIVER After a lot of discussion, the Green River City Council voted 5-2 Tuesday night to approve a Special Use Permit for Union Telephone Company to build an 80-foot cell tower on Uinta Drive.
Mayor Pete Rust and Councilman Jim Zimmerman were the two votes against the Special Use Permit, while Councilors Robert Berg, Mike Shutran, Sherry Bushman, George Jost, and Gary Killpack voted in favor. The Council previously tabled the resolution to provide time for the community to express opinions.
The tower will be located at 380 Uinta Drive, which Union employee Tyler Tholl said is the ideal location for the tower due to its proximity to the Hutton Heights area.
The Council will meet Tuesday, July 20, at 7 p.m. at Green River City Hall.
During the last meeting, the Council tabled the resolution to approve Union Telephone Company’s request for a Special Use Permit to build an 80-foot lattice type cell tower, as to allow for the public to express their opinions.

During that meeting, Union Telephone Company employee Tyler Tholl said that Union was approached by a co-locator, or a third party, to deploy a first responder network. To accomplish that, Tholl said they need a new structure.
The ideal location for this tower is at 380 Uinta Drive, according to Tholl. If it was located further south on Uinta Drive, Tholl said the tower would have to be even taller.
