The Pushkar Dhami government will table the legislation on the Uniform Civil Code (UCC) in the state Assembly today, becoming the first state in the country to do so. A UCC for Uttarakhand was a major election promise by Dhami in the 2022 Assembly polls.

The state government-appointed panel, headed by retired Supreme Court Judge Ranjana Prakash Desai, submitted the draft of the Uniform Civil Code (UCC) to Uttarakhand Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami. The UCC will establish a legal framework for uniform marriage, divorce, land, property, and inheritance laws for all citizens in the state, regardless of their religion.
