Umar Khalid, who has been in jail since September 2020 in connection with his alleged role in the Delhi riots larger conspiracy case, today withdrew his bail plea from the Supreme Court, citing a change in circumstances.

Former JNU student Umar Khalid on Wednesday withdrew his bail plea from the Supreme Court in a case lodged under anti-terror law UAPA over his alleged involvement in the conspiracy behind the northeast Delhi riots of February 2020.

Khalid had approached the top court challenging an October 2022 Delhi High Court verdict that had denied him the bail. Earlier, the trial court had dismissed his bail plea in March 2022.

Former JNU student Umar Khalid withdrew his bail plea from the Supreme Court citing a ‘change in circumstances’ and said he would approach the trial court for relief.

The activist’s application had been adjourned by the top court 14 times since October 2022.
