Delhi HC to Sharjeel Imam: Approach lower court for bail in sedition case - Sharjeel Imam is among the nearly a dozen people involved in the alleged conspiracy case linked with the Delhi riots of 2020.

The prosecution has relied on the statement given by a protected witness that the conspiracy for the Delhi riots was hatched at the office of the PFI.

The case against student activist Umar Khalid, who was arrested and charged under the Unlawful Activities Activities (Prevention) Act in connection with the alleged larger conspiracy case behind the 2020 Delhi riots, is intentionally fabricated, his counsel told the Delhi High Court on Tuesday.

Khalid had approached the High Court with his appeal challenging the trial court order which denied him bail in connection with the UAPA case.

While hearing the bail appeal filed by Umar Khalid in relation to the Delhi Riots case, the Delhi High Court remarked that it cannot hold a mini-trial to test the veracity of a witness’ statement.
