Voice, Mobile Internet, and SMS services were blocked in parts of Delhi as protests over the divisive Citizenship Amendment Act intensified in the national capital, with thousands of people defying prohibitory orders and gathering at historic Red Fort and Mandi House.

As violent protests over the Citizenship Amendment Act storm the national capital, leading telecom operator Airtel has suspended mobile internet services in some parts of Delhi on government orders.

The order comes after screenshots of proceedings were allegedly shared on social media.

The Delhi police opposed the bail application of former JNU student Umar Khalid and six others before a court, alleging that they conspired to incite violence during 2020 riots in the national capital.

The prosecution in the Delhi Riots case argued that the accused “deflected” the blame towards Bhim Army and BJP member Kapil Mishra.
