the question is at what cost will they secure a path way to citizenship for dreamers. is the president going to seek full fund go for his border wall? is he really going to insist on the quote/unquote ending chain migration which is doing away with family reunification visas. and even some republicans who don t think they should be changing legal immigration during this debate. also, there is an urgency that people feel is missing from the white house, even if we don t meet the headline. we won t do anything to low priority undocument immigrants. low priority immigrants routinely get rounded up during routine traffic stops. they have to reach a deal by midnight.
when will some folks in this country, particularly folks on the right, stop look at illegal or undocument immigration in this country as a threat? that is the problem of the debate we re currently having, that folks are talking about folks that are undocumented in this country as though they are some huge amount, great threat when we are, in fact, a country of immigrant. come on, simone. who is being the hardliner here? make sure there s complete amnesty for everyone who is here and everything else we ll deal with another time? this is an opportunity for everybody to get something and get this debate finalized. we ve been talking about this for decades now. it s coming to a head. people like you, simone, can t be sitting there saying, no, just finalize 1.8 million people. by the way i want to be clear. that s not what i said. go ahead, simone. i want to be clear. that s not what i said. no one said we need full amnesty. i and other democrats fully
table, they are negotiators, they are historically the negotiators who have had idea after idea to get things done but haven t been able to do so because of the far right and the far left. much more so on the far right. and they have taken bipartisan compromise after compromise and flushed it down the toilet they have said, particularly the right, no way. anyone that allows anyone undocument mated to stay in the country is amnesty. and what the president said is i m going to take the heat on that. that is so huge. as anna has been living it for more than a decade. i ve been covering republican politics and sort of legislative fight on immigration for more than a decade. it is so huge. it started with george w. bush who wanted to take the heat but didn t have the political capital to do with the base by the time he got there. donald trump does. so the whole sort of back and forth about will there be a
doing was essentially sending his officers to roam the streets and say demand the papers of anyone they viewed as possibly here in an undocument it had fashion, which was people with a skin color. they felt clued them off to that. the court said you can t do that. it s a violation of our constitutional protections and he kept doing that. until the court had a to convict him to get him to stop. that s what was pardoned tonight. that is quite a message to send. that is a very, very big deal. and it is his crime really a violation of our constitution and of what this country means that it is horrible that you would pardon it, but it is exactly consistent with everything else that president trump has done. he has no respect for the constitution. he acts in a way where he speaks when he s speaking honestly, to say exactly what he means. and again, i have to say i feel
time is running out for undocument the im grants brought to the u.s. as children. the president trump gave congress a march 5 deadline to find a solution before he terminates the daca program allowing them to temporarily work, study and live in the u.s. without fear of deport tation. this week some big names in nation security signed a letter urging congress to find a way to protect dreamers before the year s end. they say it is a matter of national security. signing a letter, people like james clapper, and leon panetta. le who has held a slew of social posts as former defense secretary, former cai directia . i sat down with him and why he thinks it needs urgent action. watch. i know you re a passionate about daca and these dreamers.
