I think the reason why some of these have stuck around all the time, as youve said, theyre really politically intractable. But in some sense theres a reason for that, and maybe its not necessarily a bad thing. I mean, the other option is to have absolutely no regulation, right, at the extreme so that theres no conflict over what that regulation and anything goes. And if thats not what were trying to set up, a sort of superregulatory council that can sort of whackamole and bat down anything that is not the least trade restrictive model, thats where youre getting political pushback be. And thats the idea that, you know, citizens want to be able to have some say in what their economy looks like. And in some senses, you know, some citizens want greater Government Intervention in the economy. Cato would say less Government Intervention in the economy. But these are really, really important questions. And it really gets to, again, i think, marjories question when she said raise your hand if
State of play there . Jim, are you following that . Well, a bit. Im not probably not as expert as some others are on this. But certainly i think youre right that the because we are two such gigantic financial markets, the opportunities in liberalization there or harmonization are tremendous. The benefits that flow from that are probably as large as anything you could think of in the entire ttip agreement that would flow from that. In the United States the reluctance on the part and i think we should be doing it. I think the reluctance in the United States is the passage of dodd franks and nobody wants its too new, nobody wants to tamper with that, nobody wants to tinker with that. I think it definitely needs some tinkering with, but nobody really wants to deal with dodd frank and the secretary of treasury, this is a little bit of a turf battle, the secretary of treasury saying thats our area.
