HOPEDALE A local woman is trying to make nights a little more comfortable for those who have to sleep on the ground.
“For me personally …. I hate being cold, I can’t stand it,” said Darrah Durand. “The thought of people living in New England and sleeping outside in the streets, I can’t even fathom. Whatever I can do to provide any amount of warmth to someone else, I’m happy to do it.”
Durand, who lives in Franklin, has partnered with her faith community at Union Evangelical Church in Hopedale to create sleeping mats woven from plastic grocery bags, a project since dubbed “Mats Made in Heaven.”
