On July 20, replacing the old Men’s Mission, Union Gospel Mission of Salem opened a new 57,000 square foot shelter, making room for nearly 300 more beds, 50% more recovery program participants, 61% more in our Learning Center, and 222% more dining room guests.
In addition, this new men’s shelter at 777 Commercial Street includes a designated medical triage space, improved health and safety features, ADA accommodations, and, ultimately, a more inviting place of care and comfort that will help individuals break the cycle of homelessness.
While homelessness continues to be a crisis in Salem, Oregon, there has never been a more critical time than now to provide more beds, more meals, and more life changing programs to our neighbors in need. This new shelter will expand our ability to help more people.
