(UPM, Helsinki, 1 January 2022 at 07:30 EET) - Members of the Paperworkers' Union, the Finnish Electrical Workers' Union and the Trade Union Pro have this morning started strikes at UPM mills in Jämsänkoski

The 9-day strike could disrupt the entire Finnish economy.

An agreement between the paper workers' unions and UPM can not be reached prior to the walk-out date.

UPM is facing the prospect of three weeks of strike action at its Finnish mills from the start of the new year, at a time when the industry is already dealing with shortages and a supply squeeze on some paper grades.

Forest giant UPM wants flexibility to vary conditions for staff at different sites.
