Representatives of the Nigerian government are currently meeting with the executives of organised labour at the Presidential Villa in Abuja, the nationโs capital, to avert the planned strike scheduled to begin during the week. ย The Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) and the Trade Union Congress (TUC) of Nigeria had resolved to begin an indefinite nationwide strike starting on October 3, 2023. ย This comes after a joint press briefing held by the leaders of the unions in Abuja last Tuesday. ย

Leaders of the organised labour โ the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) and the Trade Union Congress of Nigeria (TUC) โ on Friday failed to attend a meeting called by the representatives of the President Bola Tinubu-led Nigerian government in a desperate effort to avert the planned nationwide strike from October 3. According to the two labour centres, the governmentโs invitation came late as they had already scheduled engagements outside Abuja, the federal capital.
