Deloitte to launch AI Institute initiative in Canada
On Wednesday, Deloitte is set to launch a new artificial intelligence (AI)-focused virtual initiative in Canada, aimed to foster research and AI adoption across industries.
The initiative, which is being called the Deloitte AI Institute in Canada, will bring together practitioners, clients, and ecosystem partners, such as academics and research institutions, to exchange knowledge and information regarding the field of AI.
Deloitte is one of a number of large firms that have recently sought to invest in Canada’s AI ecosystem.
The initiative will also host virtual events allowing Canadian medium-to-large organizations to better understand AI, learn from more mature organizations, and create an ecosystem of AI partners that can help them adopt AI or scale up its use.
Aifred Health among top three finalists in IBM Watson AI XPRIZE competition
Aifred Health, a Montréal-based startup that offers clinical solutions for mental health treatments using artificial intelligence (AI), has been selected as one of three finalists for the IBM Watson AI XPRIZE.
AI XPrize is a five-year competition with three judging rounds. Montréal-based Aifred Health was one of more than 700 applicants for the competition, which is aimed at encouraging the use of AI to solve challenges faced around the world.

SAP Canada to expand to new Montréal office, bring headcount in city to 1,000 with new hires
Global enterprise software firm SAP Canada is growing its Quebec presence with a new office and hires in Montréal.
The new 65,000 square-foot space will be an SAP Labs space, which will focus mostly on research and development of SAP’s software. The new office will replace SAP’s existing Montréal offices located on Robert-Bourassa and de Maisonneuve.

Construction of the office is currently underway and SAP Canada expects to move into the new space in September. The new office will include a new engineering unit, to work on SAP’s Consumer Industry Cloud, which builds custom technology solutions.
