THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Amid calls to postpone the examinations, state universities began the UG examinations on Monday.
All universities have brought out Covid-19 protocols to be followed by the affiliated colleges at the examination centres. However, reports from several campuses indicate widespread slackness among students in adhering to the strict norms. Kerala University provice-chancellor PP Ajayakumar said the examinations of the varsity went on incidentfree.
“Over 95 percent of students attended the final semester examinations. In view of the pandemic-induced restrictions, Kerala University has set up additional exam centres in all districts,” he said. The PG examinations of Kerala University would begin today.
High court of Kerala
KOCHI: Ordering for allowing a transgender to join National Cadet Corps (NCC), the high court has directed for amending the law to include transgenders in NCC.
Justice Anu Sivaraman issued the directive after considering a petition filed by Hina Haneefa, a student of University College in Thiruvananthapuram. The court said the fact that NCC Act does not recognize the third gender or that detailed guidelines are to be introduced for the integration of persons of third gender into NCC cannot be a justification for denying entry for the petitioner.
Ruling that denial of enrolment to NCC is unsustainable, the court said the petitioner is entitled to participate in the selection process and to be enrolled in NCC if she is successful.

The High Court directed the respondents, the Centre and the National Cadet Corps, to make such changes within six months. Updated Mar 15, 2021 · 05:39 pm Image for representation. | Jewel Samad/AFP
In a landmark ruling, the Kerala High Court on Monday observed that transgender persons can join the National Cadet Corps on the basis of their “self-perceived gender identity”,
Bar and Bench reported.
A bench of Justice Anu Sivaraman noted that the Transgender Persons (Protection of Rights) Act, 2019, recognises their right to a life of dignity, and prohibits discrimination. The provisions of the National Cadet Corps Act, therefore, cannot preclude the operation of the Transgender Rights Act, 2019, it said.
