On May 13, 2022, Flagler College’s Division of Continuing Education hosted the first of many events in partnership with the St. Augustine Historical Society. The reception was held during the St. Augustine History Festival in the Markland House on the Flagler College campus.
Before the end of the summer, a contractor for the city of St. Augustine slowly began moving the city s 100,000-pound Confederate memorial onto a barge bound for Trout Creek Fish Camp.
It was the culmination of weeks worth of careful effort to prepare the structure. The move sparked protests, including physical and verbal assaults and death threats against the moving team.

Both the city s Confederate memorial and a memorial to Confederate Maj. Gen. William Loring are at Trout Creek Fish Camp. Randy Ringhaver, president of Ring Power Corporation, who founded the fish camp, offered to display the memorials at the location.
