Fourth finalist for UI President promises to be present and interactive with campus community

04/23/21 The fourth finalist for University of Iowa president says he will be a large presence on campus, especially during times of crisis. Dean of the UI’s College of Education, Daniel Clay, held an open forum event Thursday afternoon as part of his two day on campus visit with educators, administrators, students and community leaders. He’s the only internal candidate of the four vying to become the University’s 22 nd President. Clay said he has a head start compared to the other finalists, who will have a lot to learn about the culture and community. With his experience, the Daily Iowan reports Clay saying, “I know and trust and respect the people on our campus.” While admitting he too has a lot to learn, he said the learning curve “will be short.”

Third finalist for UI President stresses equitable inclusive campus environment at forum

04/20/21 The third finalist for University of Iowa president says that without a diverse and inclusive environment, the work that needs to be done at the UI and universities across the country won’t get done successfully. Georgia State University Provost Wendy Hensel is on campus to meet with the community through today. She pointed out recent internal promotions that have gone from interim to permanent  without campus input, saying that it doesn’t bring the legitimacy that a national search would bring. The Cedar Rapids Gazette reports that Hensel described firsthand experiences with that subject duringher time at Georgia State. She said the campus community was “furious” when they appointed a new president of Diversity Equity and Inclusion before a task force tackling the appointment had finished its work.
