The Communication Workers Union (CWU) has given a cautious welcome to the new boss at IDS, but has also warned that senior management at Royal Mail “cannot shake off their union busting mentality” despite the recent detente between union and employer.
Representatives from the CWU have held two meetings with Royal Mail management this week, but there’s still no further news on the impasse between the two parties.
The future stability of Royal Mail has been thrown into question again, after the CWU suspended the ballot over its proposed pay and conditions agreement due to the “command and control” workplace environment it described as “toxic”.
Royal Mail has again called for “major reform” of the USO after posting a £1bn operating loss – reduced to a mere £419m, or £8m a week – on an adjusted basis.
