Hours at the Upper King William branch library and the new library in West Point could be cut.

The county agreed on a property swap that will give it three acres of land along Route 30 as part of a proposed 55-plus housing subdivision that will come before the board at the end of the month.

West Point is seeking about $300,000 to $400,000 from King William County.

One proposal would upgrade a space in West Point’s shopping center to become a larger library at a cost of just over $1 million.

The King William Board of Supervisors agreed Monday to put up additional money to maintain current opening hours at the Upper King William and West Point branch libraries.

King William County is now looking at alternatives to the Pamunkey Regional Library to run services in the county.

Without the requested increase in funding, the Pamunkey Regional Library system would have to cut its hours by 50%, library director Tom Shepley said.
