Officials say between 75-100 people are stranded on Upper Red Lake Friday evening after a large chunk of ice broke off from the shore.

Before emergency responders arrived on scene, bystanders attempted to evacuate some of the stranded people by canoe and four people fell into the open water during the attempt.

No one was hurt during the ordeal, but four people fell into the water while attempting to canoe to shore prior to the arrival of emergency crews, authorities said.

The Beltrami County Sheriff's Office has confirmed that 75 to 100 people are in need of rescue on Red Lake after getting stuck on the ice Friday.
