Kitten infected with rare raccoon rabies strain launched federal response

The raccoon rabies strain found in an Omaha kitten was never before seen in this part of the country. That forced federal officials to come in and vaccinate raccoons to make sure it didn't spread. Now, the veterinarian who discovered the cat had rabies says we won't know if the spread was stopped until January.

USDA to open first year of new export promotion program with $300M

The Agriculture Department announced Wednesday it will dole out $300 million during the first year of its new $1.2 billion Regional Agricultural Promotion Program, or RAPP. The funding, which is designed to help ag groups, cooperatives, state agencies and others expand exports of U.S. farm goods, will be released in tranches and those who receive funding will have five years to use the money.
