Maricopa County was hit with multiple thunderstorms and flash flood warnings on Thursday evening as a monsoon storm rolled through the state.
Western and northern parts of the Phoenix area saw isolated thunderstorms develop, with heavy rain and strong wind gusts found in parts of the city.
Thunderstorm activity was expected to decrease through the night as winds pushed east, resulting in lower rainfall in central Phoenix and parts of the East Valley.
The Phoenix area was anticipating showers to begin on Thursday in the late afternoon or early evening.
Warnings and advisories
A flash flood warning was issued for rural parts of western Maricopa County after Doppler radar readings showed heavy rain producing up to 2.5 inches. The warning was to be in effect through 7 p.m.
