SINGAPORE, May 30 If graduates of Islamic studies are found to be behind an online poll asking others to rank which female asatizah (or religious teacher) should be gang-raped, the Asatizah Recognition Board has said that it would not hesitate to take stern action against them.
They will also be barred from teaching Islam to the Muslim community in Singapore “in whatever form”, the board that accredits asatizah in Singapore said in a statement yesterday.

SINGAPORE: Singapore President Halimah Yacob and Minister-in-charge of Muslim Affairs Masagos Zulkifli have expressed concern about an online poll sexualising female Muslim religious teachers, which is being investigated by police, the local media reported on Friday.
In a Facebook post, the president, in a rare pubic outburst, said, Is there no limit to how low some will stoop to degrade and defile women? Not only those who conducted the (online) poll but those who participated in it also deserve our strongest condemnation.

The police are investigating an offensive poll online that ranked a list of ustazah, or female Islamic religious teachers, and which President Halimah Yacob and other leaders lashed out against yesterday.
The poll, which first came to light on Wednesday, had asked people to rank a list of ustazah according to their sexual attractiveness.
The Islamic Religious Council of Singapore (Muis) said yesterday it was aware of the post, which has caused immense distress to the individuals involved and is very concerned by it.

The poll had asked people to rank a list of female asatizah according to their sexual attractiveness. The poll was first highlighted by Ustaz Muhammad Zahid Mohd Zin, late on Wednesday (May 26) in an Instagram post.
The list shows at least 12 asatizah being ranked, with 1,005 participating in the poll. I got a distress call from an ustazah (female asatizah) and was shocked! All listed here in an app are our local asatizah! Who did this must be held accountable! said Ustaz Zahid.
