The final draft of the Uniform Civil Code has been approved by the Uttarakhand Cabinet, paving the way for its tabling in the state Assembly whose special four-day session begins on Monday.
The Uttarakhand Cabinet approved the UCC report, marking the fulfillment of a major promise made by the BJP before the Assembly polls. The UCC drafting committee, led by retired Supreme Court judge, submitted the draft to the Chief Minister. The government will present the UCC Bill in the Assembly. Once implemented, Uttarakhand will become the first state after independence to adopt the UCC.
