Ranchi (Jharkhand) [India], March 2 (ANI): The Jharkhand government has started the compensation process for the state s victims in the avalanche triggered by the bursting of a glacier in Uttrakhand s Chamoli last month.
The families of the deceased will be given a sum of Rs 1 lakh under the Jharkhand Interstate Migrant Labourers Survey and Rehabilitation scheme, the state Labour Commissioner informed on Tuesday.
Labour Commissioner of Jharkhand A Muthukumar said, We are giving compensation to fourteen families. The labour department has transferred the compensation amount to the Labour Superintendents of concerned districts. It will be given to aggrieved families in two or three days.

Uttarakhand glacier burst Updates: Toll rises to 31, race against time to rescue those trapped in tunnel

New Delhi, Feb 09: The death toll from the Uttarakhand glacier disaster rose to 31 with five more bodies being recovered, officials said on Tuesday as multiple agencies raced against time to reach about 30 workers trapped inside a tunnel in a power project site and 175 people remained missing.

The missing people include those working at NTPC s 480 MW Tapovan-Vishnugad project and the 13.2 MW Rishiganga Hydel Project and villagers whose homes nearby were washed away.

Communist Party of India (CPI) MP Binoy Viswam submitted his suspension of business notice in Rajya Sabha under Rule 267 over the flash floods that wreaked havoc in Uttrakhand s Chamoli district on Sunday.
In his suspension notice addressed to Rajya Sabha Chairman and Vice President Venkaiah Naidu, Binoy Viswam said the natural disaster that occurred in Chamoli is another in a series of tragedies that finds its root cause in the large scale environmental degradation taking place across the country.
