Prime Minister Narendra Modi will hold a meeting with the council of ministers on Friday as coronavirus cases surge at an alarming rate in the country. The meeting is expected to be attended by some of the top government officials and Union ministers.
Several states have said they will not be able start vaccinations of the 18-44 age group against the coronavirus from Saturday because of a shortage of vaccine doses, sources say.

In a significant step, the Union government on Monday (April 19) announced that the third phase of COVID-19 vaccination will begin from May 1 and everyone above the age of 18 will be eligible to get the vaccine jab.
The registration for vaccination of people above the age of 18 will begin on April 24 (Saturday) on the Co-Win app.
In this phase of vaccination, vaccine manufacturers would supply 50% of their supply of doses to centre & would be free to supply the remaining 50% doses to state governments and in the open market.

The Central government on Monday, April 19 made an announcement to make the Covid-19 vaccination open for all above 18 years. The liberalized and accelerated phase 3 of Covid-19 vaccination will start on May 1, 2021. States have also been empowered to procure additional vaccine doses directly from manufactures.

New Delhi: The centre has announced a liberalised and accelerated Phase 3 strategy for vaccinations against the coronavirus under which all adults will be eligible for inoculations from May 1.
Here are the top five announcements by centre on Phase 3 vaccinations:
Vaccine manufacturers would supply 50% of their monthly Central Drugs Laboratory-released doses to the Government of India and would be free to supply the remaining 50% doses to state governments and in the open market.
Manufacturers would transparently make an advance declaration of the price for 50% supply that would be available to state governments and in the open market, before May 1. Based on this price, state governments, private hospitals, industrial establishments etc would be able to procure vaccine doses from the manufacturers.
