are saying, do i need to get a booster? well, don t go into a vaccine site if you may be infected. wait at least ten days after you ve gotten sick or had a positive test. if you re eligible for a booster, get it then. only note, again, someone who has had covid. i ve heard it said on this broadcast. people have had covid and they speak with their pharmacists or doctors, you need to wait 90 days after getting covid to get a booster. a lot of people have gotten covid even though they ve been vaccinated with their first mrna or their first j&j shot. what about that? there s no harm in waiting but probably no benefit, either. if it s been at least ten days since you ve been sick, there is no reason to wait. if you want to wait 90 days after, that s probably okay. i want to quickly look at some countries, denmark, for example. dropping their covid rules. will that happen any time in the
kind of health insurance. my next guest is someone who tackles this head on, bringing assistance directly into immigrant communities. dr. michelle laru. thank you very much for being with me. later today you re distributing hundreds of at-home covid tests. what does that process look like? yes. we re going to be doing very similar to what s being done in d.c. we re hosting a vaccine clinic where we re also going to be distributing at-home testing kits. we do them in our head quarters in the heart of langley park where we know our community resides, knowing our community is are essential workers that have transportation challenges. it s a lot to ask for them to take a day off, to take several buses to get to a larger vaccine site. so bringing the vaccines and the kits directly to the neighborhoods where they live, speaking their language, working with an organization like casa,
do you see more folks showing up to get tested along with trying to get that booster? reporter: yeah. this is encouraging, yasmin. this is the vaccine site for santa clara county, on the fairgrounds, and elsewhere they have a testing site. both are very busy. that s a good thing particularly on the vaccination side because while this county has done and this state really has done relatively well on vaccinations, they re still not where they need to be on boosters. in california in santa clara county, i should say, 80% of this population in this county that includes san jose and silicon valley, fully vaccinated but only about a third have boosters. look at the statistics nationwide, about 0% of americans are 60% of americans are fully vaccinated, a little more than a quarter have received booster shots. this is a time when we know now with the omicron variant that experts are saying that two-dose series is not good enough
