The psychiatrist who released Vancouver police Const. Nicole Chan from hospital hours before she died by suicide gave evidence Friday that contradicts what a Vancouver police officer told Coroner's Court a day earlier.

A coroners inquest into Nicole Chans death heard testimony Thursday about the Vancouver police officers visit to the hospital just hours before she took her own life in 2019.

Const. Warren Head said he was surprised by the doctors' decision to release Chan from VGH because it rarely happened with Mental Health Act apprehensions.

Chan alleged in a WorkSafeBC claim that Sgt. David Van Patten told her on numerous occasions he needed to have sex with her to relieve his stress"...and that if I helped him, he knew many powerful people at VPD and could help me get ahead."
