While those investigators are typically focused on dismantling groups who shoplift larger ticket items and then illegally sell those, Torrez said they cannot let petty crimes like what Santillanes is accused of go unpunished.
An officer with the Albuquerque Police Department allegedly shoplifted more than $150 from Target stores by putting price tags from cheaper items onto more expensive merchandise at the checkout.
“There is probable cause. Let's not forget that if she is convicted and if she is found to have committed these crimes. She should've known better,” John Duran said.
