BJP insiders hint at possible understanding between Siddaramaiah and Yediyurappa to undermine Somanna in exchange for a smooth passage for the Lingayat strongman’s son Vijayendra

Amid widespread rumours that the Congress high command is expected to pick one among Siddaramaiah and DK Shivakumar as Karnatakas next Chief Minister, former state minister Ramalinga Reddy has revealed the three others are also in the race for the top post.

Congress now has to choose the next chief minister amid rumors that Siddaramaiah is the front-runner.

Clarification comes as Congress party faces an uphill task of choosing the CM candidate while Siddaramaiah supporters put up posters.

The Congress high command’s first option is convincing Shivakumar by offering him plum ministries –water resources and energy – and deputy CM post. The second option is 50:50, where both Siddaramaiah and Shivakumar will be the CM for 2.5 yrs each

The two strong contenders for the post of Chief Minister of Karnataka, Siddaramaiah and DK Shivakumar have been summoned to Delhi on May 15.

Latest trends indicated the BJP was ahead in 41 seats, the Congress in 36 and JDS in 13. Postal ballots were being counted initially. The elections to the 224-member Karnataka Assembly were held on May 10

Congress leader and son of former Chief Minister Siddaramaiah, Yathindra Siddaramiah today expressed confidence that Congress will get an absolute majority. He also said for the interest of Karnataka his father should become the Chief Minister.

Varuna is the home turf of Siddaramaiah. The constituency has more than 2.3 lakh voters, with Lingayats comprising the majority.
