Lessons learned from the Thomas Fire have been incorporated into Ventura s emergency operation plan adopted earlier this week.
The Ventura City Council approved the 270-page plan on Monday that will prepare residents for the next fire or other emergencies like plane crashes and tsunamis. The city s emergency operation plan was last adopted in October 2013.
The latest update discusses improvements to VC Alert, the countywide, opt-in system that notifies residents of an emergency.
Dan Wall, emergency manager for Ventura, said VC Alert has been improved in the aftermath of the 2017 Thomas Fire with county technology over which the city has administrative control.

Oak Park and Rancho Campana high schools were added to the 2021 California Distinguished Schools list announced Wednesday.
The list, originally put out by the state Department of Education in March with 102 schools, was updated with an additional 121 schools, including the two Ventura County schools.
The schools are named based on performance and progress on state indicators specified on the California School Dashboard, a statement from state Superintendent of Public Instruction Tony Thurmond says. The Distinguished Schools program is meant to recognize schools primarily for closing the achievement gap and/or achieving exceptional student performance.
Oak Park High, in the Oak Park Unified School District, and Rancho Campana High in Camarillo, part of Oxnard Union High School District, are the only schools from the county on the list this year.
