A federal judge in Detroit on Monday threw out a jury verdict ordering Ford Motor Co to pay Versata Software Inc $104.6 million for breaching a 2004 licensing contract and misappropriating trade secrets.

A Michigan federal judge on Friday challenged Versata Software Inc. to prove it gave Ford pretrial notice of its damages theory in a trade secrets case over software for managing vehicle components, pressing the company to explain how it would be fair to uphold $105 million in damages Ford calls "duplicative."

Ford Motor Co. urged a Michigan federal judge on Thursday to reduce a $104.65 million damages award that a jury levied after finding that the automaker breached a contract with Versata Software Inc. and misappropriated its trade secrets, arguing that the damages are "duplicative."

The plaintiffs Versata Software, Inc., f/k/a Trilogy Software, Inc., Versata Development Group, Inc. and Trilogy, Inc. (collectively, “Versata”) sued Ford Motor Company in 2015, alleging the car manufacturer misappropriated Versata’s intellectual property to create a “like-for-like” replacement of Versata’s proprietary configuration software, breaching the parties’ licensing agreement. Ford and Versata entered into a subscription agreement

Well, it looks like Ford will need to pay millions to a Texas-based software company after allegedly taking the companys software.
