An Alabama inmate who escaped with help from a jail official who ultimately ended up taking her own life as police closed in was sentenced Thursday to life in prison.

(CNN) — Alabama inmate Casey White was sentenced to life in prison Thursday for his escape from the Lauderdale County Detention Center last year, according to CNN affiliate WAAY.

An inmate from Alabama was given a life sentence after successfully escaping with the help of a jail official who tragically ended her own life as police closed in on them.

Following his sentencing, Casey White addressed the Lauderdale County courtroom.

Just when you thought that we were done hearing Casey White's name, he has made a confession that raises more questions about his time in Indiana.

White was serving a 75-year prison term for an array of charges from 2015, including attempted murder, and he was awaiting a capital murder trial when he escaped in April 2022.
