In response to a Right to Information (RTI) request, the Central Board of Direct Taxes (CBDT) revealed that 11.5 crore PAN cards were deactivated since they weren t connected to Aadhaar cards by the deadline.
If the PAN-Aadhaar linking is done on or after July 1, 2022, a Rs1,000 penalty will be levied. It must be paid in a single challan before submitting your request for an Aadhaar-PAN linkage on the e-filing portal.
In March, the Finance Ministry extended the deadline for PAN-Aadhaar linking by three months from March 31 to June 30. After June 30, PAN will become inoperative from July 1, 2023.
If you are yet to link your Permanent Account Number (PAN) with your Aadhaar number, do so before 30 June 2023. Those who fail to do so will attract a penalty of Rs 10,000.
