In a bid to reduce air pollution, the Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike (BBMP) has planned to install water fountains at 42 traffic intersections at a total cost of Rs 27 crore. This is part of the Rs 279 crore project aimed at improving air quality in the City by implementing nine different measures. While the fountains might help in absorbing the particulate matter and reduce temperatures, the solution, experts say, does not address the root cause of air pollution.
Almost all the traffic intersections identified for the installation of water fountains are located in the central parts of Bengaluru.
