It may be the Fourth of July, but beyond the amateurs on your block with a burning need to launch colorful lights into the air, you’ll be hard-pressed to find fireworks in Dutchess County.
In Amenia, a free display will begin at 9:30 p.m., with fireworks shot from behind the fire house on Mechanic Street, and the town hall parking lot, the Mechanic Street and Rail Trail parking lot, and Route 343 west near the fire house suggested as the best places to watch.
Outside of Amenia, options are limited.
Although COVID-19 restrictions have, in most cases, been lifted, there were only a handful of professional fireworks shows scheduled in the county this year. Popular shows in the cities of Poughkeepsie and Beacon both took another year off in the interest of pandemic safety, and others, including a paid show at Dutchess Stadium in Fishkill, were scheduled for days other than the holiday.
