Addressing media here on Friday January 22, he said, “The arrested students are Jishnu (20), Shrikanta P V (20), Ashwanth (20), Sayanth (22), Abhirath Rajiv (21), Rahul P (21), Jishnu (20), Mukhthar Ali (19) and Mohammed Razeem (20), who are second year and final year students hailing from Kerala. “The victim, hailing from Kasargod, was a first year student who recently got admitted to the college here. The victim and his batch mate were constantly ragged by nine students. On January 10, the duo was forced to visit the accused’s paying guest accommodation. The victims were asked them to cut their hair, moustache and were also threatened. The seniors beat up the first year student and behaved in an inhuman way.

32nd National Road Safety Week kick-started in Mangaluru   Wed, Jan 20 2021 03:00:17 PM Pics: Spoorthi Ullal Daijiworld Media Network – Mangaluru (ANK) Mangaluru, Jan 20: Deputy general manager of Union Bank of India Jagannath Shetty inaugurated the 32nd National Road Safety Week 2021 with a theme ‘Sadak Suraksha Jeevan Raksha’, here on Wednesday January 20 at T V Raman Pai hall. Addressing the gathering, police commissioner N Shashi Kumar said, “There is need of raising awareness on traffic among public. We can see more deaths in accidents which is four times more than murders. People are seen violating traffic rules such as talking over phone while riding, overloading in vehicles and triple ride on two-wheelers. Police are imposing fines to regulate traffic violation and not to increase the government’s revenue. Mangaluru is known as an education hub. Students should follow traffic rules and create awareness among public.”

Addressing media here on Tuesday January 19, Shashi Kumar said, “The arrested are Aneesh Ashraf (22), Abdul Khader Fahad (23) and Raheel (18), all residents of Kudroli, Sheik Mohammed Harris (31) from Bajpe, Mohammed Qais (24) from Tannirbhavi, and Mohammed Nawaz (30) from BC Road. “The gang is known as ‘Maya Gang’. Police constable Ganesh Kamath was a random target for the group as they wanted to avenge the anti-CAA protest firing which took place on December 19, 2019.

N Shashikumar is 2007 batch IPS officer hailing from Chitradurga. He has a BSc in agriculture and has held the posts of the superintendent of police and DCP in other districts. He has also served as the SP-Wireless, Bengaluru. Speaking to media, police commissioner N Shashi Kumar said, "It is not the first time I have visited the city. I have been to Mangaluru earlier as well to visit a couple of tourist and religious places. Mangaluru is a well-known city and I am delighted to serve as the police commissioner of the city. I will work with the officials of all the police stations across the city to ensure that problems pertaining to law and order and traffic are addressed."
