It returned to the area a month ago and was spotted at residential areas including Gandhi Nagar, Mavuthampathy, Tamilannai street, Mattapparai and Vinayagar Kovil street that are close to the reserved forest, a forest department official said.

COIMBATORE: A leopard that was frequenting villages near Madukkarai on the outskirts of Coimbatore was trapped in a cage by forest department officials on Saturday morning.
The leopard was released into Thengumarahada forest in Sathyamangalam Tiger Reserve following a medical examination. The age of the carnivore is believed to be between five and six years.
The leopard was first spotted in Madukkarai region earlier in 2019, but no major issues were reported then. But in July 2020, the carnivore killed two goats belonging to a farmer in Vinayagar Kovil Street. Immediately, the forest department placed a cage and two camera traps near the village to track its movement, a forest department official said.
