Many people have struggled with mental health during the pandemic. In Belgium, adolescents living in psychiatric care facilities told DW about their struggles with trying to cope in a coronavirus-stricken world.

Nestled in the leafy Belgian town of Braine l Alleud is a hospital ward where teenagers in acute mental distress come for psychological care and support often after suicide attempts or traumatic events. COVID was an extra thing that made me kind of collapse, said Alexandra , a 17-year-old ward resident, who moved to the facility in February after 2020 proved just too much to bear.
