BHUBANESWAR: The special squad of commissionerate police here on Sunday arrested a Bangalore-based MBA graduate on charges of cheating several jewellery store owners in the state by impersonating income tax (I-T) officials. The accused was identified as Vishal Rajkumar Nilenge (25). He was arrested from a star hotel near Sriya Square here.
The police said the accused had purchased gold worth nearly Rs 1 or 2 lakh from a store in Sambalpur, Puri and Jharsuguda each. “He would introduce himself as a senior I-T official before making the purchase. At the time of payment, he would insist on doing so online and would show the store managers a forged message of money debited from his account,” a senior police official said, describing his modus operandi.
