A Chicago Public Schools elementary school teacher who was on the job earlier this year despite being previously accused of inappropriately touching students was sentenced Monday to 50 years in federal prison for molesting a young boy in Indiana.
In 2019, just 13 schools in the entire district spent $300,000 or more in outside money raised from a variety of sources. All were in wealthier areas of the city.
Students and parents of Volta Elementary marched after school Friday asking for peace, safety and investment into their school’s playground in the wake of a shooting next to the school last week on the city’s Northwest Side.
