Deep meaning of equity The execrable Susan Rice has returned to public life to lead the White House Domestic Policy Council. It’s an anodyne title, but she has taken up residence in the Executive Office of the President to execute, to crack the whip, to impose discipline, to play the role of Krupskaya to Joe Biden’s glassy-eyed Weekend at Bernie’s routine. Rice emerged on Tuesday to preview the strong dose of “equity” that Biden was to promote later that day. What does “equity” m...

Studji Kritiċi, Volume Two  2020 As I have affirmed in my first review of his first volume of his critical studies, Tarċisju Zarb is one of Malta’s most prolific poets. He is a worthy author, academician, essayist and teacher whose highly philosophical views of life reflect a very deep and almost painful preoccupation with what is actually going on in a world that is tragically succumbing to chaos. And like all poets, he is still hoping for better days, with more colourful undertones of cy...

From the column: "I swore the same oath for the U.S. Air Force that my congressman did, to support and defend the Constitution of the United States from all enemies, foreign and domestic. ... Congressman Stauber did not swear an oath to write bills and vote on legislation. He swore an oath to defend our Constitution. That takes priority over policy. If he does not act, he will have broken his oath."

( Welcome to  Great Moments in MCU History, where we fondly recall great little bits that made us fall in love with the MCU.) Some early Marvel movies are smaller blockbusters than you might remember, getting by on the charm of their leads and one or two modest action scenes. Revisiting Guardians of the Galaxy reveals a different mainstay left behind with Marvel’s massive success: a willingness to get a little grimy with it. Led by Troma wild child James Gunn, the first Guardians was pret...

From fictional debuts to untold histories, Martin Chilton rounds up the forthcoming titles to keep you reading throughout the year. Julian Barnes wrote: "Pleasure is found first in anticipation, later in memory." The new year will bring novels from Kazuo Ishiguro, Sebastian Faulks, Lisa Taddeo, Stephen K...

The Redbud City: Sheriff Evans saga continues Clyde Wooldridge EVANS IS SHERIFF AS LYON BOND CANCELLED The same two stage hands that rang up the curtain on Pottawatomie County’s political comedy-melodrama, wrote “finis” to the exciting episode on Saturday morning, May 1, 1937. Rufus Lyon’s $10,000 surety bond was cancelled and that left Sheriff Elza Evans as the sole claimant to the little suite of offices in the northwest corner of the courthouse basement. Commissioners Frank Sims, and...
