Center Grove robotics navigates season during pandemic

Last year, Center Grove’s FIRST Red Alert robotics team’s trip to an international competition was canceled due to the coronavirus pandemic.
The FIRST Robotics World Championship competition, in Detroit, would have featured a meeting of teams from countries such as China, Romania, Germany and Japan, but was instead held virtually. To qualify for the tournament, Center Grove won the Chairman’s Award for the state of Indiana, the most prestigious award in FIRST Robotics, according to the robotics organization’s website.
To win the award, Center Grove’s team submitted both a video and an essay to judges about the team’s history, performance over the years and what it’s learned, said Lisa Porat, Red Alert Robotics parent organization president and mentor.
